Schick and Vaughn vs Kuhn
In response to Jonathan, I agree with you that Kuhn's special concept of a paradigm seems to be a very slippery one at least; and a possibly self-contradictory one at its worst. My problem with this concept seems to be very similar to yours. He says that when a paradigm shift happens, the scientists are all of a sudden living in a different world, at least in some sense. But this is where I think he wiffle-waffles and loses alot of people. In WHAT sense does he mean they live in a different world? Physically? Intellectually? He never really says or bothers to clarify this, which I think is one main reason many people fail to belive him.

I understood his writings to be referring only to that which the scientist is studying, though I have no idea if I have it correct. It seemed to me that Kuhn was specificaly discussing how science moves along and the scientists' role in the process of scientific progress. I am not clear why the effects of the paradigm change would hve to do with anything other than that which is being studied.
