on loss and knowing
Sorry to hear of those of you that have had to deal with loss of a family member or loved one. It really made me think of our readings in Fay's chapter on the discussion surrounding how we can know someone, or ourselves. The common phrase of "time heals all wounds", is often used in dealing with grief. This is a good example of how Fay stated that our knowing ourselves is affected by time. As he states that how you know yourself at t, is different than how you know yourself at t+1, and so on. Our experiences change how we know ourselves, and through time we gain experiences. Also, the perspective that we acquire when we are able to "step back" and see the big picture we can see illustrated in this example. This reinforces the idea that we can know others, sometimes better then themselves. Sometimes others can know us better with the wide lens in which they view us.
